Storm Get Sick in the Not Cool Way But I Was Stuck at Work So I Didn't Have to See It
I'm simply choosing not to watch this game
Y’all, the life of a little read WNBA substack maintainer has its inconveniences for sure. No pay, the not so gentle reminder of the meagre stats for my posts every time I log in, being a fan of a sometimes very frustrating team, all of these combine to make this an sometimes torturous endeavor. Luckily there are some advantages to this arrangement! When you have to work the same night as a game and wonder about when you’ll have time to watch and write about said game and then while checking your phone secretly at work you see that a couple important rotation players in health and safety protocols, including the best player on the team, AND that the team is getting blown out in the fourth quarter you can simply choose not to watch this dumb game that you will learn nothing from other than that roster chaos is not good for a somewhat tightly constructed team. You also can write sentences as long as you want because you have no editor to appease with a fidelity to grammar. Take that all the very kind people who have had to edit my incredibly insane word choices over the years! This is a very long way around to saying that I definitely did not watch this game!
I ALSO FEEL PERFECTLY FINE ABOUT NOT WATCHING because this game, and all regular season games for that matter, have waaaaayyyyy less importance in the iteration of the W. See, for the last five years the top two teams have gotten byes through the first two rounds of the playoffs, placing them automatically in the semifinals. In every year but the last this bye has led to those teams ending up in the finals (last year the Sun 😞 and the Aces 🤣 somehow failed at this very easy task), that’s not true this year. This year they league has gone back to a classic tournament format where, besides home court advantage, there is very little benefit to burning your team out to get those top seeds. With the top 8 teams in a 13 team league making the playoffs, you can treat the regular season like an extended training camp and considering the Storm’s rosters flux right now that’s a good thing. Last night was a whole pile of garbage that I’m basically going to ignore!
WE’LL SEE IF I WATCH THE GAME ON SATURDAY THAT WILL ALMOST CERTAINLY BE IN THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES (STORM PLAYERS OUT AND ALSO I’M AT WORK)! TILL THEN STAY SAFE AND FREE BRITTNEY GRINER!
